Summer Business Motivation: Staying Productive and Inspired in the Heat

As summer is in full swing, it’s common for entrepreneurs and business owners to experience a dip in motivation. Hey, I’m in that boat too! I just had a brand new deck installed this week and now all I want to do is spend time outside and with my daughters. So I feel you… I think we all are feeling the need to step away from our computers and enjoy the summer.  In today’s article, we’ll discuss some effective ways to stay motivated in business during the summer months. Let’s dive right in!

1. CREATE A BALANCED SUMMER SCHEDULE

To kick things off, let’s address the first challenge many entrepreneurs face during the summer: hello – distractions! The beautiful warm weather, vacations, kids home from school, gatherings, parties and outdoor activities can make it tempting to slack off. My first tip is to create a summer schedule that balances work and leisure. Yup, I’m serious – I know you are an organised entrepreneur, so I want you to use those skills to create a schedule that has work + fun planned into it. By setting aside specific time for both, you can actually enjoy the season while still maintaining your business momentum. I think that’s what we all want! This could involve designating certain days as workdays and others as recreational days. (Maybe take Fridays off if you can) By doing so, you’re less likely to feel guilty about taking time off and more likely to stay motivated during workdays.

2. SET CLEAR SHORT-TERM GOALS

Another effective strategy is to set clear, short-term goals for the summer. You heard me, don’t try to tackle the bigger projects right now. By breaking down your larger business objectives into smaller, attainable milestones, you create a sense of progress and achievement. And most importantly, you need to celebrate these milestones along the way! Go out for drinks with friends or celebrate with your loved ones as you complete your goals. This not only boosts motivation but also helps you stay focused and accountable.

3. BE ACTIVE & PRACTISE SELF-CARE

During the summer, it’s crucial to take care of your physical and mental well-being. Staying active, eating well, and getting enough rest are essential for maintaining high levels of motivation and energy. Incorporating regular exercise into your routine can be particularly helpful, as it releases endorphins and boosts productivity. I read a little while ago that the most successful people in the world practice on average 45 mins – 1 hour of physical activity per day. This may seem like a lot, but ever since I learned this back in February, I have been going to the gym daily – every morning and it has changed my life! Truly. I have more energy every day, and I feel amazing completing something difficult first thing in the morning before I start my work day. Highly recommended! Oh and I don’t think I mentioned it but drinking a lot of water during these summer months is so important for your body, so amp it up!

4. CHANGE YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT

Embracing the summer atmosphere and finding inspiration in it is also important. The longer days and pleasant weather can create a positive and refreshing ambiance. Consider changing your work environment occasionally. Take your laptop to a local park or beachside cafe and enjoy the outdoors while getting work done. This simple change of scenery can invigorate your mindset and keep you motivated – AND bring you joy as we need to take the time to enjoy some vitamin D while it’s here.

5. SUMMER IS ALSO FOR LEARNING

Let’s not forget about the power of continuous learning. Use the summer months to expand your knowledge and skills through reading books, listening to podcasts (like this one!), or attending business conferences and workshops. There’s always so much going on and available to you! So allow yourself to dive in.  Learning new things not only keeps your mind engaged but also fuels your motivation to achieve more in your business. You don’t always need to have your pedal on the gas and going full speed, sometimes refreshing your skills and gaining clarity in your business as you do so is needed for your growth.

6. DELEGATE TO YOUR VIRTUAL ASSISTANT

Lastly, I know how it can get sometimes, as an entrepreneur, we want to get so much done, wear all the hats and grow as fast as we can. But it’s also important to delegate to your team so you have more time to do the bigger moves OR more time to spend with your loved ones. So if you have a Virtual Assistant, consider delegating more tasks to them to give you a break. If you don’t have a VA, maybe this could be the sign that you need one!
